New ORV Area Between Sparta and Cookeville

I have been in negotiations with a land owner and a partner to open an off-road park. We have finalized the deal and are now ready to start preparing the property to open. It is the old Golden Mountain Raceway and Park along with around 400 acres of the surrounding hills and hollers.

Some of you local to the area may remember the park from when it was open several years back. Everything is still there and most of it is still in good shape. We have several pavilions...one with restrooms, concessions and a huge field-stone fireplace...a full playground for the kids, basketball court,  two volley ball courts, horseshoes, put-put golf (needs a little work),two lakes, a baseball field, bumper boat area, go cart track, the dirt track arena, a motor cross track, camp ground with grills at each site, and probably a few more things that I can't remember. Some of this will be available when we open and some may be available at a later date.

The trails will be stock/easy, more difficult, most difficult, all the way up up to bring your lunch and plenty of spare parts and then the soon to be famous bounty hill (so far...bounty hill 3/drivers 0) There are several easy trails and we have cut a few for almost any challenge level already.

Over the next few months we will be marking and clearing trails in preparation of opening the gates to the public. Anyone that would like to help is more than welcome and any help is appreciated. Nick Cooper and Ryan Brogden came up and checked out some of the park facilities and helped us finish out a trail today (thanks guys)

The way we have worked it so far is we meet at the park, do some riding, check out the facilities, cut a trail and then ride it. I will be marking and clearing some trails through the week and on the week-ends if the club or anyone wants to get involved. We hope to turn this into something everyone can enjoy and have fun with from the stock rides to the custom buggies to the wives and kids that a full day of trail riding might not be their thing.

Feel free to make any suggestions and ask any questions or give me a call at (931)808-4661 Thanks, Jimmy

I will try to get some pics up in the next few days or maybe Ryan (or anyone else) can post some of the ones he took.

Re: New ORV Area Between Sparta and Cookeville

I went down and checked the park out on Sunday. This place looks very promising. The existing facilites make it a "golden" opportunity to have one of the best offroad parks in the southeast (no kidding).

But, the ultimate success of an offroad park depends on the trails. And it's going to take some volunteer work to get the trails cleared and cut.

Most of the trails are going to be pretty natural, like dry creekbeds and rocky ravines, along with old and new logging roads. There is no running water on the property so erosion and runoff polution are not a concern (very good).

Here is our opportunity to have an awesome park in our back yard.

One of the lakes was stocked when the park was open several years ago. Supposed to be some BIG bass in there now, I have seen several smaller bass and some blue gill around the edges so there are some fish in it. I don't know if the other lake was ever stocked but it has a sandy beach area on it so you can play in the water or wash the day of trail ridin' off.

The possibility of more land in the future is not out of the question. I think there will plenty of trails to keep busy on for a week-end on what have now though. Anytime you want to get together just give me a call and we'll set something up. Thanks

Re: New ORV Area Between Sparta and Cookeville

I joined this board after reading this post from a link on Tennessee Off Road. I live in Cookeville and LOVE to ride in my Jeep and I hate not really having a place to ride around here. Looking at the pics that were posted brought back tons of memories. I'm 22 years old now and I remember playing on that playground and going up there for summer camp when I was a Cub Scout. I'm super excited about an ORV park going in there and am willing to help as much as I possibly can. Kudos to whoever came up with this.
